Ethical & Sustainable Fashion -- Why I Became a Sseko Designs Fellow
A few years ago I was introduced to Sseko Designs at a vendor event. Maiko, my Sseko Fellow (and now my “Big Sis”) genuinely moved me in how much she loved this company.
But it wasn’t until recently that I really started to take a look at them in a different light, beyond being a happy customer. Their commitment to sustainability and empowerment is way ahead of other fashion brands and you can feel it every time you hear a Fellow share why they support and sell for this company.
In 2020 alone they fully funded 35 university scholarships to female scholars in Uganda and Ethiopia. WHAT!? That’s right! And thats not all — here are some more stats from their 2020 impact report:
It’s been incredible to follow Maiko’s journey and watch her share stories of her Sseko Sister in Uganda, Florence (who I received a handwritten note from on the wallet she made for me!).
As I’ve grown into my motherhood journey, I’ve realized that I look at my closet different. Not because clothes don’t fit they way they used to, but its more than that. I look at it and see tolls that support who I am as a person. Will I be playing in dirt that day or do I have a big meeting? Will I be running errands or can I get a run in. All of these daily questions are a part of who I am as a person, a mother and a wife.
Being able to know that whatever I’m putting on - sweats, leggings, a power suit - is not only going to inspire confidence in myself, but also help empower women across the globe, that brings me JOY.
Did I forget to mention their coffee? In addition to their beautiful line of clothes, jewelry and leather goods, they just launched a a fair trade coffee line - Together Coffee. (Also, EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEIR PRODUCTS is Fair Trade Certified)
